RS Feva World Championship 2011 day 1

'Practice Day - RS Feva World Championship 2011'    Richard Gibbons/Anemoi

RS Feva World Championship is being held in Bruinisse, Netherlands between 22nd and 29th July.

Today was for the big boys and girls with 18-22kts average and gusts of some more. Rescue was stretched but nowhere close to breaking point. Medics were on standby though, with their extractor pumps to remove the dangerous excess levels of adrenaline produced.

The day was just begging to be monstered and monstered it was. Jovian Short and James Barlow obliged by not just winning all their three races but doing it in style. They were putting half a beat between themselves and second. That was truly stupendous.

Team GBR was generally in very fine form. But as befits the GBR reputation when barnacles are being blown off rocks that was internationally par. Owen Bowerman and Charlie Darling, the reigning World Champs, scored 1,1,3 on the day and RYA NJS improvers of the year. Robert and Alice Masterman were third overnight with 1,4,2. Rounding out the top Brits in fourth are Robert Baddeley and James Taylor and with a career best day in fifth Seb Baucutt and Harry Buisseret from Tonbridge School.

Other notables are hot Italians Matteo Pilati and Mattia Ducchi who are back for umpteenth time hanging in there in sixth. Steady eddies Matt Whitfiled and Scott Wallis are in seventh ahead of top HKG boat Matt Hollis and Scarlett Manzoni. Sterliing effort by the latter in the breeze as she can fit into pocket for all the bulk she can muster. Top 10 rounded out by Morgan Peach and Herbie Harford and Barnie Blackstone and Will Proud. 11th and 12th are the top duelling Nordics from Sweden leading a swag more Brits including the Barnett Band, Hugo Tucker and Tim Collino, Alex Farrell and Alex Warrington, the brazen Sarah Hussey and Andy (Feet) Brierley and the Family Bristow.
