Queensland Youth Week entries hit 204

Entries for the annual OAMPS Insurance Brokers Queensland Youth Week surged to 204 overnight with more expected to be received in the coming days before the event.

Queensland Youth Week also incorporates the Australian Midwinter Youth Championship and is a chance for young sailors to compete against the best before the start of the summer regattas, including the Sail Down Under Series, Australian Youth Championship and respective Australian Championships.

Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS) hosts the regatta and organisers are in full swing with preparations to make this year's event the best ever. Three courses will be set on Waterloo Bay east of Manly in Brisbane, giving the fleets an even spread on the racing areas.

The Optimists have dominated the entry list with 74 registered to race. RQYS is set to host the 2012 Optimist Australian Championship so Queensland Youth Week is the perfect training event prior to the regatta.

'It's going to be great to see so many young sailors racing on Waterloo Bay this year,' said RQYS Commodore Russell McCart. 'Youth sailors are our future so events like this that cater just for them are ideal in ensuring their love for the sport continues.'

Queensland Youth Week kicks off on Friday 1st July with a fun race around the bay scheduled as a warm up event. Official racing will commence on Saturday 3rd July with two races scheduled.
