The historic Christchurch Yacht Club storage shed known locally as the rowing shed was demolished on 13 June 2011 as a result of the Christchurch earthquakes. The building which was in its 100th year was deemed unsafe after Monday's 6.3 earthquake centres within 200 metres of its location.

Since February's earthquake the Rowing Shed had started to lean towards the sea and club members felt that it was only a matter of time before it slipped off its piles. The 14 yachts stored at this facility had been removed in February and were originally stored at various members homes.

The insurance company which cover the club had originally put concrete blocks and wire to secure the building, but CERA (Canterbury Earthquake Regional Authority) deemed the building unsafe and ordered its demolition.

The Rowing Shed originally housed rowing skiffs and was purchased the 1960s by the Christchurch Yacht Club. It is hoped that the club will be allowed to rebuild on the same location.
