We had encouraging Day 3 results after the frustrations of the light Day 2 at the DeltaLLoyd Regatta in Medemblik
Day 2 - we were plenty fast enough but didn’t sail smart enough in the challenging shifty winds off 6-8 knot including a 180 deg wind shift on one downwind leg.
Overall we are finding it really cold and was also drizzling this morning.
The water is really cold and a top air temp of around 11 deg C.
It was still quite windy and shifty today after the cancellation of 49er racing yesterday due to winds averaging around 30knots for their afternoon start.
Today the wind was around 20 knots all afternoon with a really steep chop due to the shallow water. A capsize through the last gybe of the day going to the finish of the last race was frustrating – causing a nice lead to evaporate and finish second over the line (Surfed over a couple of waves through the gybe and then 'down the mine' on a steep one)
Predictwind has been quite accurate, it is suggesting wind around 20knots for the final two days.
Qualifying finishes tonight (three or four more 49er races) with the 49er medal race programmed for 11pm Sunday NZ time. (9am Sunday Holland time)
