Racing in most events was cancelled on the third day of the fifth round of the ISAF World Cup, Medemblik. Racing was conducted in two events.

Strong winds hit Medemblik, the Netherlands on Day 3 of racing at the ISAF Sailing World Cup Regatta where members of the NZL Sailing Team are competing this week.

Racing was completed in only some events before sailors were brought ashore and competition abandoned for the day set to resume tomorrow.

The Mens Windsurfer (RS:X) were the only class to sail two races planned and NZL Sailing team member Jon-Paul Tobin managed the conditions without major incident, coming away with a 2nd and a 3rd.

'The wind was up to 30 knots at times, it blew up in the second race on the first upwind, and I had to really move to get back in the action,' says Tobin.

The race discard is now in play and Tobin holds onto second place overall in the standings closing the gap slightly on leader, and local, Dorian van Rijsselberge narrowing the gap overnight to two points.

Taehoon Lee of Korea is just one point back from Tobin after a 1, 2 on the water overnight, with a huge 15 point gap back to fourth place.

Koru Match, the NZL Sailing Team’s crew of Women’s Match Racers took a close win in the one race they sailed today and remain in contention to qualify for Gold Group.

No racing was possible for Peter Burling and Blair Tuke in the 49er class, or for Dan Slater in the Finn.

Dropping her worst race has greatly assisted Miranda Powrie in the Laser Radial standings moving up to 14th after lying 21st at the start of the day. She placed 7th in the one race sailed overnight.

Another three days of racing remain with the medal winners decided on Sunday in Medemblik.
