After leading two events on the first day of the fifth round of the ISAF World Cup, Medemblik, the NZL Sailing Team have dropped back slightly, but are still well placed in both.

Conditions for the second day of sailing on the ?sselmeer in the Netherlands, were initially light and shifty, but settled down to eight knots or so under clear skies and temperatures that peaked at 16 deg C.

In the Mens HP Skiff (49er, Peter Burling and Blair Tuke slumped badly after the fresh conditions of the opening day, placing 7, 19 and 13th to drop back to fourth overall. The series is now led by 2008 Olympians, Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes (GBR) with current world champions Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen (AUS) jumping into third overall, after being able to discard their DSQ for not completing the course properly in the opening race of the regatta.

JP Tobin remains the best performed of the New Zealanders sailing in the event.

Sailing in the Mens Windsurfer (RS:X), Tobin finished third and eighth in the two races sailed, and lies second, four points behind Dutch sailor Dorian van Rijsselberge. A Korean sailor is third with former World Champion Ricardo Santos (BRA) in fourth overall.

Carl Evans, the 2008 NZ Olympic representative in the 470 class is also competing in this regatta, having made the transition to the windsurfer, and lies 45th overall - scoring better with 35th and 30th placings.

Dan Slater had a repeat of his opening day in the Heavyweight Mens Singlehander (Finn) scoring another premature start under the Black Flag rule - which means he is disqualified from participating in further starts for that race. It is his second such infringement of the regatta. He was again third in the other race sailed and now lies 38th overall - being unable to discard either DSQ, at this stage. The event is led by Ed Wright (GBR) with top British Finn sailor, Ben Ainslie not competing in this regatta.

Miranda Powrie had an indifferent day in the Womens Singlehander (Laser Radial) placing 20th and 51st to lie in 21st overall in the 59 strong fleet.

In the Womens Matchracing (Elliot 6m), the Koru Match team led by Stephanie Hazard scored three wins and had only one loss to lie third equal in their pool on both total points and win percentage. This is a good result, so far for the New Zealanders who are racing in Group B of the competition.

Burling and Tuke, Tobin, Slater and the Womens Match racing team are all NZL Sailing Team members. The others are sailing as individual competitors in the event, the DeltaLloyd Regatta. The NZL Sailing Team is competing in only four of the ten events in this Olympic class regatta, which doubles as the fifth round of the ISAF World Sailing Cup. The next round will be sailed in England, next week at the 2012 Olympic venue in Weymouth.
