World Match Racing Tour - Mirsky satisified with start to season
|
World Match Racing Tour 2011 began with its first event that took place in Marseilles this past week. The event in Marseilles hosted 12 of the best match racing teams in the world who were all fighting to be crowned World Match Racing Champion. Newly named team, The Wave Muscat, skippered by Torvar Mirsky had a great start to the season, placing third overall. The Wave Muscat started well, winning the qualifying round and choosing to race Portugal's Alvaro Marinho and his Seth Sailing Team. Despite putting up a strong fight, it was The Wave Muscat who came out on top, going through to the semi-final round undefeated. Once again it was Mirsky's pick, but with only the final three remaining, the choice was a tough one. 'We chose to race against Bertrand Pace in our semi finals, because we thought we had a physical edge on his Team Aleph' recounted Mirsky. 'I think I would make the same choice again, but as it was, luck didn't go our way and he managed to beat us in the fifth and final race of the series.' Now facing the fear of losing another petit finals, as happened so many times in 2010, The Wave Muscat was paired against Denmark's Adrian Lee Sailing Team, skippered by Jesper Radich to fight for the last remaining podium spot. The Wave Muscat came out firing, and took the series victory 2-1, putting the team in good stead for the title hunt, which continues in Korea in June.
