Olympic Garda Eurolymp, Wednesday 11th May to Sunday 15th May, the Olympic classes will rule the waves on Upper Lake Garda with the Olympic Garda Eurolymp 2011.
This year's event has special significance for the Italian crew; it is one of the final three regattas from which the final selection will be made for London 2012 (the other two being the ISAF World Cup in Palma, Majorca and Hyeres France).
Four sailing clubs are involved in the organization with four racing courses: Fraglia Vela Riva, Surf Torbole Club and Fraglia Vela Malcesine are directly involved in the operation while Arco Sailing Club is the logistical base for the 49er. This is a great collaboration of clubs which has been expected by Fraglia Vela Riva's President Mauro Stanga, in order to host such a highly technical event. Laser Standard ( Men’s ), Lasers Radial ( Women’s ),470 Men's and Women's are based in Fraglia Vela Riva.; RS:X Men’s and Women's at Surf Torbole Club, while Star ( recently excluded from the 2016 Olympics in favour of mixed multi crafts ) and Finns are at Fraglia Vela Malcesine.
There is a high international participation with almost 40 nations represented including emerging countries like Chile, Uruguay and Mexico. There is an enormous presence of Chinese in all categories as well as Australians, New Zealanders, Brazilians and Japanese to bring a total of around 300 crews altogether.
