Barcelona World Race 2011 - Virbac-Paprec 3 continues to forge their way up the south Atlantic now past the Falklands to their east and still monitoring closely what they feel will happen with the high pressure ahead of them. Their speeds remain good averaging over 18 knots through the night to hold a lead of 234.7 miles over Mapfre. They have 30kts SWly winds. Iker Martinez and Xabi Fernandez continue to pull back some small miles against the French duo Jean-Pierre Dick and Loïck Peyron, gaining 13 over the night period up to 0400hrs UTC. Mapfre was 70 miles east of the Falklands this morning and are racing in W_SW’ly winds of 25kts. Renault ZE Sailing Team have been making around 12-12.5kts and are around 1000 miles from Cape Horn this morning, racing in W’ly 18kts and should be expecting much more wind this afternoon and evening when they start to get the first of the new low which might give them 35-45kts NW’ly breeze. Neutrogena have actually gained again on both Renault ZE Sailing Team, making seven miles on the boat in front and four miles on Mirabaud. Dominique Wavre and Michèle Paret have slowed slightly in advance of the new system coming to them, most likely setting up early given that Dominique is doing most of the heavy work himself. They are expecting 40 kts NW’ly from afternoon. The red duo behind, Groupe Bel and Estrella Damm both remain slightly quicker than the trio immediately in front of them, Kito De Pavant and Seb Audigane have been quickest of the peloton averaging 15kts, whilst Estrella Damm have been quickest on the 1hr speed average. Groupe Bel is furthest south of this group now down to 53S. Hugo Boss are now in the middle between the Mid and East Pacific gates in 30kts SW’ly winds, 421 miles behind Estrella Damm. Breezes will build for Gaes Centros Auditivos who are 283 miles behind Hugo Boss. FMC are south passing the latitude of the Chatham Islands and look set to have their 40-45kts of NW’ly breeze for at least another 24hrs. We Are Water are 50 miles to Cape Farewell and so 160 miles to Wellington. Barcelona World Race website
