'Nathan Outteridge, Ian Brown and David Cheyne have the perfect scorecard in the SB3 Series – 6 from 6 - Audi Victoria Week'

Master helmsman and tactician and Australian Olympic hopeful Nathan Outteridge and his crew of Ian Brown and David Cheyne aboard the SB3 One Design Racing are cleaning up the William Angliss Institute SB3 Class Series at Audi Victoria Week. From yesterday’s light and fluky winds to today’s 25 knot brisk sou’easter and plenty of white caps on Geelong’s Corio Bay, Outteridge has seamlessly made the transition, today putting on another jaw-dropping display of raw talent that is proving too hard to beat and now with six straight wins from six. Outteridge and his crew broke their bow pole in the middle of today’s second race and while it might have been a handbrake on the downhill slides, it still wasn’t enough to handicap them out of the top spot. 'We decided not to pull the pole out all the way for the remaining races, we were a little slower downwind but still managed two bullets,' Outteridge said this afternoon.

He’s got his foot down as he’s hosting on a farewell dinner for their third crew member, Irishman David Cheyne who is the SB3 World Council President and who is flying home tomorrow evening after the final two races of the eight race series. On today’s damage Brown said, 'we aren’t sure what happened, we had a reasonable amount of wind and were going pretty quick at the time. Every time we went around the top mark and set the kite Jono Shelley would catch us, in fact he got in front of us in the same race we broke the pole until his crew work let him down.' On sailing with Outteridge Brown added, 'to work with him fantastic, it’s a great opportunity for me'. Second on the series pointscore, five points adrift of Outteridge is Shelley’s Credo-group.com followed by Stephen Fries’ Wysiwyg V. Outteridge, who turns 25 this week, has twice won the 49er Olympic class skiff World Championship (2007 and 2009) and two weeks ago won the 2011 International Moth World Championship against a stellar field. In 2005 Outteridge suffered a major setback when he crashed his car en route from the Laser Nationals on Lake Macquarie to Sail Melbourne. After his spine was rebuilt he spent a year recovering and in rehab and was back sailing within nine months, showing how much fight this champion has within. Audi Victoria Week website
