Key West Race Week - The first day of Key West Race Week 2011 for the Melges 24 fleet was fantastic on many levels. Warm temperatures and subtle breezes brought ideal conditions to the fleet. Seated in first with a nice four point lead is former America’s Cup helm Flavio Favini driving for owner Franco Rossini on Blu Moon. Favini is no stranger to winning in Key West. When the International Class was forced to hold its 2001 World Championship in 2002 at Key West, it was Favini’s third time in the boat and won. With a good day on the water, Favini admitted that part of Blu Moon’s attendance in Key West has everything to do with working up to and preparing for Worlds in Corpus Christi. 'We’re still deciding on Charleston, but we are on for Worlds and we’ll also be doing Bacardi Miami Sailing Week.' said Favini. Reigning World Champion Lorenzo Bressani at the helm for Lorenzo Santini’s Uka Uka Racing was impressively relaxed on the dock after racing today. He is seated in second place overall tied with equal points with Norway’s Full Metal Jacket owned by Lars Horn Johannessen in third. Thus far, Marty Jensen on Zig Zag is the leading Corinthian Team. Mark Beck on Risky Business is in second and third is Scott Holmgren on Rosebud. Top Five Results (After two races) 1.) Flavio Favini/Franco Rossini, Blu Moon; 2-1 = 3 2.) Lorenzo Bressani/Lorenzo Santini, Uka Uka Racing; 1-6 = 7 3.) Lars Horn Johannessen, Full Metal Jacket; 3-4 = 7 4.) Alec Cutler, Hedgehog; 7-2 = 9 5.) Brian Porter, Full Throttle; 4-7 = 11
