The Combined Yacht Clubs of Poole have announced the dates for the 2010 International Paint Poole Regatta. Taking place over the Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend of May 29th to 31st 2010, the bi annual Regatta will once again play host to a number of class events including the J24 Southern Area Championships.

International Paint, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of high performance yacht and marine coatings has confirmed its title sponsorship for Regatta. Chris Jones of International Paint commented, 'It has been a great pleasure to have supported the Poole Regatta since 2006 and seen it grow into one of the important sailing events in the UK.

With a wide range of yachts taking part we are able to meet our customers and be part of the sport they enjoy. The event allows local club racers to sail against serious National Champions in an area which provides a level playing field for all competitors. It is therefore an ideal Regatta for us to support and we look forward to the first start gun of another successful event in May next year.'

To help to encourage an increase in the international flavour of the event, International Paint has also agreed to offer sponsorship to yachts from mainland Europe and the Channel Islands, details of this initiative will be announced shortly.

The three day Regatta offers start lines in Poole Bay for the larger yachts and within Poole Harbour for the smaller competitors. Poole Bay is one of the finest sailing areas in the UK, local knowledge is unnecessary for competitors from outside the area so it is ideal as a championship course. For this reason the Regatta has included a number of national and area championships which are welcome to take part in this professionally organised event.

IRC Cruisers, class and one design keelboats, MOCRA Multihulls, and local handicap cruisers all take part over Olympic, windward/leeward and ad-hoc courses set by a team of highly experienced and dedicated race officers. Feeder races are also planned from around the UK coast and cross channel for international visitors.

With the support of International Paint and other prize sponsors, the organisers are able to offer an array of outstanding prizes and trophies. Hosted by the 7 combined clubs of Poole and the Poole Yacht Racing Association the onshore entertainment takes place at Poole, Parkstone and the Royal Motor Yacht Clubs, with water taxis available for interclub or marina transport.

A web site has been created for further details and entry at pooleregatta.co.uk It is just one year to go before one of the most exciting sailing events around the UK coast.
