Sail-World Australia - 16th April 2009

Today we have the latest ISAF Rankings - extended to show the top 25 sailors/crews in each of the Olympic classes - although Australia is ranked second overall, a close look at these figures reveal they are ancient history.

There was a flurry of mail yesterday into the various America's Cup postboxes. Some it was old, some new, some undelivered.

In this issue we have another in our Off the Record series, looking at the letters that have been sent, and anything that is new in them.

For those who enjoy the intrigue of the America's Cup, they are a good read.

For those more interested in what is going to happen next there is the offer of a Meeting - yet to be accepted.

There's more on who is hiring boatbuilders, an intriguing re-work of America's Cup history, and the latest on the Louis Vuitton Series. Click here?nid=55851 to read it all. If only we could name the sources of some of this information - but that is the way the game is being played at this stage.

And here is the latest on Leg 6 of the Volvo Ocean Race, as they head for the gate off Fernando.

In cooler climes, the NZ Optimist Nationals concluded in Wellington. The almost 250 competitors from five countries (New Zealand, Australia, Tahiti, New Caledonia and Singapore) experienced the full range of conditions that Wellington can offer. Two Australian sailors finished in the top six overall, proving Australia will be a force in this important class, having been well behind the pack up to now.

Again we have reports and images, along with links to a lot more information in this issue.
