Sail-World.com : The Clouds Badham Trophy

The Clouds Badham Trophy

Meteorologist Roger Clouds Badham wants a new handicap Sydney to Hobart trophy, from Sydney to Tasman Light – he reckons that is all about race and not about luck.

In the sixty three years so far, that would probably have been another forty winners, those luckless race leaders on handicap who arrived at Tasman Light only to find the weather gods had shut the gate.

As one of those luckless winners Roger has my vote and I reckon a lot of others.

Now the most serious question is who is going to get the gig sitting in the Light house on Tasman Island for four or five days, to record transit times.

There are but two sleeps to go. It’s crazy down at Sydney’s CYCA right now, with sailors up masts and queues at the chandleries.

While you think about that… You can win a Southerly Offshore Jacket, a Seabrake or a Burke Marine Inflatable PFD – enter the competition top right hand corner of Sail-World pages.

Plenty of news today but there is more to come. over Christmas Day and on Boxing Day morning. Sail-World will have the most detailed coverage of the 64th annual 628 nautical mile classic, so stay with us and if you wll be sailing south, make sure the home computer has Sail-World as one of your favourites.. if it is not already.

What's in store for our readers before the gun fires on Friday? The boys from Newcastle have a new green Tow Truck, they went south very bravely in a Mumm 30 in 2005, this time they’ve stepped up to a Ker 11.3.

We talk to Ray Robert’s. His Quantum Racing is handicap favourite and he is hungry for a win.

Looking further back in the fleet, Mike Freebairn updates on Spirit of Koomooloo and Sean Langman talks about his beloved Maluka of Kermandie, the smallest and oldest boat ever to go south.

Streaming TV from anywhere it the world, you will be able to watch and listen to the three boat Sydney to Hobart start, I'm exaggerating there could be up to six or seven seven boats in the race.. on the TV feed. - Dave Dingo just does not get this 100 boat handicap thingy, or at least the media don't want to bother to really explain. You can see for yourself at 0300 GMT. We will have the link

One last piece of news….We will be streaming Rolex Sydney Hobart HF radio frequencies for the duration of the race. So if you want to keep up with skeds and the traffic between them, from anywhere round the world, stay with Sail-World.com

Happy Christmas from us all, have a great 2009 ... sneak a peek at what we are up to tomorrow....then we'll be dockside at CYCA from 6am on Boxing Day, then out on the water, then off to Hobart on a diesel canary...even downwind the Boeing is faster.
