Sail-World.com : Seawind Moreton Bay Regatta a great success
Seawind Moreton Bay Regatta a great success
|
A total of 17 Seawinds were involved, with 15 fronting the start line at this year’s Seawind Moreton Bay Regatta held on the 14 – 16th of November. With a 70% increase on last year’s turnout, this year’s participants were not disappointed with perfect Queensland conditions for Saturday’s racing. For the first time boats from the growing Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast fleets joined the regatta. A Friday afternoon invitation race started the event with a strong 13 boat turnout, all enjoying some social racing before an evening BBQ and drinks at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron. Local sailor Alan Larkin onboard his Seawind 1160 'Beats Workin' took out the invitation race. On Saturday morning after the welcome and briefing, a light northeasterly got the fleet away and racing in sunny warm conditions with a race across Moreton Bay to Horseshoe Bay where the fleet rafted up for lunch. After lunch the winds strengthen to a nice 15 knot North Easterly which blew the fleet down to Canaipa where the evening’s presentation party was to be held. With most of the fleet finishing within only a couple of boat lengths of one another, this was an exciting and close race to finish off the day’s sailing. Later that night around 85 people enjoyed a catered dinner under a marquee in the grounds of RQYS Canaipa. The regatta ended on Sunday morning with breakfast at RQYS Canaipa before boats headed off to their home ports, with many already starting to plan to sail in the 2009 Seawind Moreton Bay Regatta.
