Sail-World.com : Deauville International Week 2009

Deauville International Week 2009

Deauville International Week

Deauville International Sailing Week will be celebrating its fourth anniversary from 4th to 7th June 2009 and is thus continuing its development as a great Channel-based international rendez-vous.

As in previous years, it is a packed sporting programme which is offered to regatta racing enthusiasts, with a total of 4 days of competition, 3 whole days from Thursday 4th to Saturday 6th June, and the morning of Sunday 7th, with a return to the pontoons early afternoon and a prize-giving at 1600 hours.

12 races are scheduled across the 3 zones positioned around the Deauville race zone, added to which some coastal courses will be provided for the IRC craft in the Baie de Seine. The notice of race is now available and registration is open on the website. www.deauville-week.fr.

80 yachts and 500 crew members answered the call in 2008 and all the various series have expressed a desire to return to the event in 2009. The one design monohulls will confront one another in elapsed time and comprise Sportsboats, 747 ODs, FC.7.5s, J 80s, MUMM 30s and J109s. The IRC cruisers meantime will be ranked in corrected time and split into 2 classes, IRC 1 and 2.

Made official at the Paris Boat Show in December, the various labels already acquired this year, which guarantee both participation and a high sporting level, are once again in demand for 2009: Mumm 30 French Crewed Championship, French J 80 Cup, and the UNCL's IRC Channel Cup.

The number of soirées scheduled during the event and the infamous charm of the Deauville resort, at the heart of one of France's finest regions, will also enable crews to benefit from their time ashore. Furthermore, the website (Deauville / hotels / self-catering accommodation / seasonal lets) proposes a host of accommodation possibilities.

The event has been possible since its creation by the determined support of the town of Deauville and the other public partners (Calvados County Council, Lower Normandy Region, Pays d'Auge Chamber of Commerce and Industry), along with numerous media which cover the event and some businesses which use the event as a public relations and communications tool.
