Bostik heading for Malta

'Bostik at the Voiles de Saint-Tropez Photo: SailingOne'

Bostik, the first unit of the Veolia Oceans® series for the SolOceans, left the Gulf of Saint Tropez yesterday afternoon towards Calvi and Ajaccio in Corsica.

But the final destination of this new voyage for Charles Caudrelier (skipper) and Yann Clavier (boat captain) is the Island of Malta, right in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. In fact, the start of the Rolex Middle Sea Race will be given from this island on Saturday 18 October.

It is the classic regatta ending the International Racing Season in the Mediterranean. This competition will officially open the Veolia Oceans® Class allowing all the one-design of this series to race on equal footing with their own ranking. As Bostik is the only unit taking part to the Rolex Middle Sea Race this season - given that number 2 of the series is being fitted out at the moment in Caen (Normandy - France) and the construction of number 3 is being completed in Cherbourg (Normandy - France) - she will not officially take part to the competition, but will do a speed test in real condition all along the 606 nautical miles of this 'Fastnet race' of the Mediterranean, opposite the most performing yachts of the Rolex series (Rolex Fastnet Race, Sardinia Rolex Cup, Rolex Giraglia, Rolex Big Boat Series San Francisco,...).

At this occasion, the two young Figaro Sailors François Gabart (Espoir Région Bretagne) and Thomas Rouxel (Défi Mousquetaires) will join Charles Caudrelier and Yann Clavier in Malta from Turkey where they are at the moment ending the Trans-Mediterranean Cap Istanbul race (Nice - Istanbul).
