Rolex X-35 World Championship 2008
|
A total of 54 entries from 10 nations makes the X-35 Worlds the largest international one-design event for these exciting craft since the X-35 Class was launched and granted ISAF Recognized Class status in 2006. With Rolex as the Official Partner and the prestigious Yacht Club Italiano as organizer, the second X-35 World Championship will be held in the beautiful surroundings of Cala Galera in Tuscany from 22-28 September. The X-35s will arrive by sea or truck from across Italy as well as from France, Spain, Greece, Turkey, the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Estonia and Russia. Almost 25% of all X-35s built will be present for the second World Championship - an indication that this is an extremely active one-design class that is continuing to grow. In 2008 many X-35 one-design races have taken place, among the largest was the European Championship in Germany with Christian Groth from Denmark as overall winner. He also went to finish on the podium in the Scandinavian Championship held in Copenhagen during the X-Yachts Gold Cup. In Copa del Rey in Mallorca, Thorkild Junker from Great Britain was the winner in a field of 25 X-35s. It was the second time that the X-35s had a class of its own.
