Sail-World.com : Gilbert and Stewart win Merlin Rocket Nationals

Gilbert and Stewart win Merlin Rocket Nationals

Roger Gilbert and James Stewart duly won the Merlin Rocket Nationals held at Looe SC over the last week. Leading from race 1 they never had a result worse than a fourth on their way to a second title.

An early challenge by Richard Whitworth and Sally Ann Townend - champions in 1998 - with wins in races 4 and 5, stumbled with double figure results in races 5 and 6, while Gilbert and Stewart returned to winning form in the final races.

Second overall were Tom Stewart and Liam Dempsey, who while scoring consistantly in single figures, never managed to win a race and this was reflected in their overall score, 12 points behind the winning pair.
