Sail-World.com : York takes Round 3 of RS600 Fat Face Circuit

York takes Round 3 of RS600 Fat Face Circuit

Turning up for Round 3 of the RS600 Fat Face Racing circuit on what was supposed to be a fairly light wind weekend to find a good stiff wind blowing across the Northampton SC reservoir was, for some, a very pleasant surprise and for others it was a bit of a shock.

Sailing began with shifty and gusty conditions. David Annan flew up the first beat to be first round the wind ward mark, but slowly was caught up by Ian Marshall who went on to win with Anthony York in second and Annan into third.

Race 2, and York headed the fleet, until losing his rig due to a broken shroud! Sainbury, now in 2nd, forgot to lower his tiller extension in the gybe, ending with two! Annan led for the rest of the race followed by Marshall and Guy Lonsdale.

In race 3, using borrowed rigging, York took pole position with Marshall and Lonsdale chasing. The fleet grouped together more in race 4. Jon Powell rounded the windward mark first, holding his lead until losing out to York who finished first.

Race five on Sunday in lower but more constant wind saw Jon Charles lead the fleet for the first two laps, finally letting York & Marshall on the last lap. Race six started with Sainsbury port tacking the whole fleet and stretching out a lead. However, somewhat confused, he headed to the finish, only to be waved around for another lap. This gave York time to catch up and they fought each other up the windward leg to eventually see York finish in first with Sainsbury hot on his heels.
