After four agonizing days all hope for completing the double elimination in Cabo Verde rests on the event’s final day.
Earlier in the holding period we enjoyed great surf throughout the single elimination which was won by Brazilian Kauli Seadi (JP / NeilPryde), who’s the current world champion.
In a four-man final he defeated local favorite and 2007 Cabo Verde winner, Josh Angulo (MauiSails), Jason Polakow (JP / NeilPryde) and Robby Swift (JP / NeilPryde).
So far we’ve just 6 heats left to complete the double elimination if conditions allow.
Waiting on the sidelines are Thomas Traversa (Tabou / Gaastra), Marcilio Browne (Mistral / Gaastra), Alex Mussolini (RRD / NeilPryde), and Kai Katchadourian (Quatro / Simmer), who must all sail in the final 4-man heat before the man-on-man stage and the chance to challenge the top 4 can begin.
Light winds plagued day 8, but there was renewed optimism with the arrival of fresh swell at Ponta Preta.
Skippers’ meeting is at 09.00 tomorrow after all likely spots have been scoped-out.
