Decisions ahead for Paprec-Virbac 2
|
Damian Foxall, the co-skipper on Paprec-Virbac 2, tells us of the decisions ahead that he and Jean-Pierre Dick have to confront: 'We've got a low that's filling up between the two of us. We're ahead of it and they're going to be behind it. It's going to be quite a deep low and build as it comes to the Cape Horn. It's going to come right over the top of us and we're going to have to go upwind at some stage and then pick up the southerlies coming into Cape Horn. 'So it's going to be quite important for us not to get too far north. Of course, all the routing wants to send up straight back south again, but it's one thing to be sailing in ice with flat water and reaching along, but it's totally different to be doing it in 35 knots of wind, upwind, where you can't see anything. So that's occupying us a lot at the moment, deciding how far south we go.' And for Mutua Madrileña the clock has started ticking Mutua Madrileña are intent on leaving Wellington in exactly 48 hours - Mutua Madrileña stopped in Wellington at 08.00 GMT Thursday - a strategic stop to be 100% confident for the next half of the race and get back to Barcelona on top form as Javier Sanso explained this morning, 'We want to be back on the water as soon as possible and won’t waste a second, we will make the most of the 48 hours we have- if our repairs are all done and it means we can relax the last 10 hours it would be fantastic but in the meantime there are things to do and we are already ready here tonight to start working.'
Good news from Wellington from Temenos II - the damage to their keel is superficial and according to skippers Dominique Wavre and Michele Paret yesterday: 'If all goes to plan, we should be fit to relaunch Temenos II at the end of the day,' (due to start at 2000GMT on Thursday 3rd UTC). 'It is a great relief for us. We are very happy to be able to continue the race.'
