Nick Thompson tops Aussie Laser Champs

Britain's Nick Thompson tops the Australina Laser Championships after five races. He leads by one point from Mike Leigh of Canada, with Deniss Karpek of Estonia in third. Ashley Brunning is the top placed Australian entry at seventh overall.

Early race leader, Tom Slingsby of Australia, was judged OCS in race five and drops to 17th overall despite winning the opening three races of the event.

Other leading British positions; James Espey is in 29th place, Oliver Tweddell in 31st, Orlando Gledhill 33rd and Robert Godwin in 35th.

Veronika Fencova of Czechoslovakia leads the Laser Radial event after five races. A run of three race wins took her clear of Australia's Sarah Blanck, who now trails by three points. In third place is Nathalie Brugger of Switzerland and in fourth Jo Aleh of New Zealand.

Britain's Andrea Brewster is in fifth place and Lizzie Vickers in 8th and Laura Baldwin in 12th.
