Sail-World.com : A Positive Response
Great to see very positive response to the article about Steven Bond and his Optimists. Numbers of sailors write about how their favourite dinghy should be the boat of choice for youth programs. As Bond says, this program is not about the boat, it’s about the kids. The Optimist has critical mass world wide. Victor Kovalenko believes the 2016 and 2020 Australian Sailing Team will be coming from the large Optimist fleet. We have too many dinghy choices for kids in Australia. We agree with Yachting Australia who believe the future is to be found in International classes. Doing a mark rounding with ten other boats in the fleet is different to racing in a fleet of sixty, just ask Tom Slingsby. Singapore has 300 Optimists, NZL 600 that will stand them in good stead in years to come. In case you did not read the article, we’ve posted it again. The 2006 Audi Etchells Worlds are coming up fast. As Nev Wittey commented last week ... 'Gotta be the must do event of the next few months.’ There is still time for the Eastern fleets to send more competitors. Welcome to two new Sail-World advertisers this week. Northshore Yachts, who are about to announce the new Melges 24 program and Seawind Catamarans, who are putting 'their shoulder to the wheel' for the F18 Worlds in Queensland next February. Now that is going to be a blast! The Sydney Sail Show will be on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th. Sail-World is working with the BIA to ensure the presentations on the Sailing Stage are exciting, interesting and inspiring. If you can think of someone that you'd like to see up there, please contact us now.
