A big week ahead for Aussie sailors overseas. The 470 Worlds start in Rizhou China, about 160 km south east of Qingdao on Thursday. This morning, as of 15 minutes ago its blowing 15 knots there and raining, but another light weather regatta is expected and with five metre tides, it will be tough for the 2004 and 2005 World Champions, Australians Nathan Wilmot and Malcolm Page, to hang on to their title. We preview the event today. The Farr 40 Pre-Worlds on the weekend, with Matt Allen’s Ichi Ban finishing third. Defending World Champion Richard Perini’s Evolution led after day one, but a good second day result was dashed when she had to do a 720 after meeting Lang Walker’s Kokomo met at a mark, but they can be expected to give an excellent account of themselves in the upcoming Worlds. Sail-World will be talking to the skippers and crews during this regatta. While Kiwi Adam Miniprio is leading the Knickerbocker Cup, Aussie Tovar Mirksky is in second place and will be fighting hard. Sail-World will be covering the Audi Etchells Worlds in November in Fremantle in detail; the North American titles are on next week. The Waikiki Offshore series looks appealing for Australia crews in 2007, you can expect to hear more about tbis event.
