Sail-World.com : Strictly Sailing and going North

Strictly Sailing and going North

The Sail-World team spent the last six days at Darling Harbour. Total visitors numbers were down a tad, not surprising considering some ordinary weather from Thursday to Sunday. The price of fuel was a talking point for the power boat industry and this seemed to have transferred into a boost to the sailing scene.

One of the things Sail-World was involved with was the Strictly Sailing Stage.

There was a large leap in audience levels and we thank the sailing community for their interest and involvement. We plan to do the same thing, bigger and better, at the Strictly Sail Show at Darling Harbour on November 10th and 11th. We are especially looking for exciting vision from around the sailing world; if you have that content, please contact us ASAP.

There were a large number of sailors who spent their time promoting our sport at the Sydney International Boat Show and we want to record our thanks to them here.

Penny Haire from RYA Training, Katie Spithill from Lewmar, Michael Jones Olympic Sailing Program Director and team members Josh Beaver and Karen Gojnich, Michael Blackburn and Andrew Palfrey, Gary Schipper from Stormy Seas, Chris Nicholson from Northshore Yachts, Andrew Powell and John Sturrock from Sailors Radio, Rob Webb from BOM, Kristen Kosmala and Stephen Leahy from YA NSW and Graham Wilson from High Performance Sailing and the host of young sailors Graham brought to the stage.

We learned a lot from these speakers and will produce a range of feature articles based on their presentations.

Our thanks too to Domenic Genua and Justine Merrony from the BIA NSW who gave us the opportunity, and to MC Tim Stackpool who work hard to help make the Sailing Stage such a success.

Now the caravan moves north. The Sydney to Mackay and now the Vanuatu to Mackay fleets have arrived, as Jennifer McGuigan reports for us.

Abel Point Marina is filling fast ahead of Airlie Beach Race Week. It seems Kenn Batt and North Sails Weather are going to provide some booming weather for the 17th annual Race Week. The weather report, which we are posting now, is sprinkled with 20-25’s.

This newsletter has been held back today because we will be going to windward on a Boeing in the morning. However, there will be lots of stories overnight and we are all in for a busy few weeks.

Andrea Francolini will be on Pioneer Bay and you should look forward to some great pix from him. Andrea has just reach 50 Australian magazine covers and he, Teri Dodds and Crosbie Lorimer, will be contributing pix at Hahn Premium Race Week.

Right now, the Sail-World team is working hard to bring you larger and larger images.

If you can't be in the Whitsundays, we aim to bring you at least a fine drift of salt spray on your keyboard every morning.
