Sail-World.com : Sailor auctions NZL, Aussies on fire in Europe

Sailor auctions NZL, Aussies on fire in Europe

The Sail-World Team will be at Sanctuary Cove from Wednesday, with a record 423 exhibitors we actually will need walking boots with boat show soles.

The most popular story on the various Sail-World sites around the world over the weekend was about the Australian sailor who put New Zealand up for auction on eBay. Not sure why…but we note that it was not a featured story on Sail-World NZL in their newsletter today.

But we Aussies can't feel too smug, after all Kiwis are doing very well in the Volvo Ocean Race and the Louis Vuitton.

Australians on top in five Olympic classes at the World Sailing Games after the qualifying rounds. Now the fleets are strengthen with addition of several World Champions who have automatic entry. The scores are also set back to zero and there’s going to be some interesting racing. The outcome of this event will be watched will real interest.

Britisher Dee Caffari is about 700 miles from home in her wrong way round the world voyage and she’s having major problems with her auto-pilots.

James Spithill and his Luna Rossa team are doing well in the Louis Vuitton, beating Alinghi. We have plenty of details from Act 10.

In the VOR, Brunel has some speed at last, she was second out of New York. The fleet positions don’t mean much at the moment, but Will Oxley is giving us excellent updates, as he has always done.

The Sea Safety and Survival certificate scheme is five years old now, so this will be a big year for re-certification. Eastsail in Sydney, have announced their course dates.

Crazy French windsurfer Raphaëla le Gouvello has been at sea for 33 days.

Division changes at Hamilton Island will no doubt add more entries to this popular event. The NOR and Entry forms for Hahn Premium Race Week are at www.hiyc.org.au
Airlie Beach Race Week is at www.airliebeachraceweek.com and for the Melbourne to Vanuatu and Port Vila to Mackay races at www.orcv.org.au
