Just 10 days until the 2013 Sydney Hobart, going to be some very interesting match ups both at the Supermaxi end of the fleet and amongst the IRC racers.

After winning at the 2013 ISAF Sailing World Cup last week in Melbourne, 19 year old German Florian Gruber, and the current Kiteracing World Champion won the Kiteracing Oceanic Championships 2013 in Fremantle.

Second was 16-year-old current European Champion, Olly Bridge (GBR) claimed second place, while Italy’s Riccardo Leccese, who was second in Melbourne third in Freo. Interestingly Western Australian Torvar Mirsky, the talented ISAF World Match Racer finished in the top ten.

TP52 Southern Cross Cup 2013 - Team Beau Geste offshore -  Peter Andrews

An impressive win by Karl Kwok's Beau Geste team in the 52 foot regatta. And an interesting time for Rob Hanna’s TP52 Shogun V dismasted off Palm Beach on Sydney’s Northern Beaches on Saturday.

Close racing - 18ft Skiffs NSW Championship 2013 -  Frank Quealey_©_-Australian 18 Footers League

The 18 footer circuit continues to build with the Kiwis gaining strength and the European circuit expanding, Hungry, Germany and France for 2014.

Interesting too to contemplate that Rise and Rise of China, who are impressing on the RS: X scene, while they will be gaining more VOR experience aboard. With ever growing interest at media level, the Chinese push into sailing continues to grow. By the time of the 2020 Olympics in Japan, they could be a very serious player.

Now as the summer holidays roll in so do the Nationals and state titles in a host of events, make sure your publicity officer is poised ready to send news to Sail-World.com
