L'ultime étape de La Solitaire du Figaro-Eric Bompard cachemire s'annonce comme la plus délicate à négocier et particulièrement ouverte pour les places sur le podium et pour départager nombre de coureurs qui ne sont séparés que de quelques minutes au classement sur trois manches.

Dans une brise d'Ouest de huit noeuds, contre le courant de mi-marée montante et sous un ciel brumeux puis bruineux, les solitaires ont pu constater la détermination de Michel Desjoyeaux (TBS) qui prenait tout de suite le commandement devant les deux jeunes Trinitains, Corentin Horeau (Bretagne-Crédit Mutuel espoir) et Julien Villion (Seixo Habitat).

Mais le départ devant Roscoff était surtout marqué par le violent abordage entre Amaiur Alfaro (Région Aquitaine-Ateliers de France) tribord amures et Xavier Macaire (Skipper Hérault) bâbord amures. Les deux concurrents ne se sont pas vus avant le coup de canon libérateur et le Figaro-Bénéteau du Basque a percuté de plein fouet celui du Méditerranéen au milieu du bordé. Bilan : un trou dans le ballast tribord du quatrième au classement général provisoire ! Xavier Macaire pensait pouvoir bricoler un « pansement » à base d'autocollants pour colmater la brèche afin de continuer à utiliser ce réservoir d'eau de mer indispensable dans la brise…

Puis ce fut au tour de Vincent Biarnes (Prati'Bûches) de signaler la casse de son étai : le câble qui retient le mât sur l'avant s'est rompu au niveau de l'espar et le skipper décidait de revenir au port de Bloscon. Mais le temps de récupérer un nouvel étai, en sachant qu'il prenait une pénalité pour aide extérieure, Vincent Biarnes savait que le peloton serait déjà au large de Ouessant ! Il décidait donc de jeter l'éponge à Roscoff.

Côté course, le match s'annonce serré car la hiérarchie finale est loin d'être établie : le leader à l'issue des trois premières manches, Frédéric Duthil (Sepalumic) ne possède que 29'56 sur Morgan Lagravière (Vendée) et 32'28 sur Yann Eliès (Groupe Quéguiner-Leucémie espoir). Et derrière ces deux prétendants à la victoire finale, Xavier Macaire est en embuscade avec à peine un quart d'heure de décalage… Sans compter que la pression est forte ensuite puisque Nicolas Lunven (Generali) à 1h03' du leader est aussi sous la menace de quatre autres solitaires à moins d'un quart d'heure : Yoann Richomme (DLBC), Alexis Loison (Groupe Fiva), Jérémie Beyou (Maître CoQ), Fabien Delahaye (Skipper Macif 2012)!

Il va donc falloir se retrousser les manches… Car cette étape se divise en de nombreux tronçons qui peuvent créer des écarts conséquents : d'abord 35 milles de louvoyage dans une brise d'Ouest d'à peine dix nœuds sous la bruine se renforçant à une quinzaine de nœuds entre Roscoff et la bouée de Portsall, et ce, toujours contre le courant de marée montante jusqu'à 16h00 ; puis le contournement de Ouessant pendant 17 milles avec le jusant (coefficient 67) avant de descendre vers la bouée Occidentale de Sein, 25 milles plus loin et que les premiers devraient virer au milieu de la nuit.

Problème : l'arrivée d'un front peu actif va faire basculer le vent au secteur Sud en mollissant à moins de huit nœuds ! Et comme la marée est haute à 3h26 sur l'île bretonne, ce tournant en épingle à cheveu pourrait se transformer en passage à niveau… Et comme en plus ce front met du temps à passer sur la pointe de la Bretagne, la remontée du chenal du Four pourrait bien être très laborieuse ! Car ensuite, un flux de secteur Ouest s'installe durablement avec d'abord une quinzaine de nœuds pour traverser la Manche vers Wolf Rock dès vendredi matin.

Quelques oscillations de la brise plus tard (entre Ouest-Nord Ouest et Sud-Ouest), le passage d'une dépression puissante va couvrir la flotte en milieu de la nuit de vendredi à samedi : plus de 25 nœuds de Sud-Ouest avec rafales sous le front pluvieux, 20 nœuds minimum ensuite samedi midi puis de nouveau 25-30 nœuds dans la soirée…

La deuxième traversée de la Manche entre la bouée Fairway (Ouest de l'île de Wight) et la bouée d'Antifer va imposer beaucoup de prudence aux solitaires qui navigueront travers à la brise, à la houle et aux vagues avec 90 de coefficient de marée ! L'arrivée prévue à Dieppe samedi avant la nuit serait donc aussi extrêmement tonique, voire musclée sous spinnaker entre la bouée du port pétrolier et les digues normandes avec des grains à plus de trente nœuds...

En milieu d'après-midi ce jeudi, les leaders entraient dans la baie de Plouescat toujours au louvoyage face à une brise d'une dizaine de nœuds alors que le courant de marée commençait à s'inverser. Michel Desjoyeaux conservait le leadership avec Adrien Hardy (Agir recouvrement) dans son sillage alors que Yann Eliès et Corentin Horeau se glissaient encore plus à terre. Il y avait déjà deux milles d'écart entre le premier et le dernier, Gilles Le Baud (Carnac-Thalasso & Spa)!

'Cela s'est passé au près lorsque je commençais à contourner l'île de Batz. Il y avait alors 15-18 nœuds de vent et l'étai s'est cassé brusquement. Je me suis tout de suite mis vent arrière pour sécuriser le mât : c'est la première fois que cela m'arrive et c'est impressionnant parce que toute la tension du câble est reprise par le génois avec le mât qui part en arrière… J'ai eu peur de démâter. Je pourrais installer un nouvel étai rapidement, mais ce serait avec une pénalité pour aide extérieure et le temps de reprendre la mer, toute la flotte sera déjà très loin. La course est terminée pour moi…'
