World Domination and more

'2013 470 European Championship - Mat Belcher/Will Ryan (AUS)'    P.Jaffredou/G.Cazade    Click Here to view large photo

Victor Kovalenko told me back in 2000, in what was then a thick Ukranian accent that World Domination was needed in year three of the Olympic cycle to deliver Olympic Gold. He got that message to Tom Slingsby, Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen, and Mat Belcher and Malcom Page who managed both in 2011 and 2012.

Now it seems that Mat Belcher is saying to hell with year three, lets start with year one, he and Will Ryan have won their first eight regattas together, with Mat now having 16 in a row under his belt.

Does anyone know what the record is for Olympic class regattas won in a row by the one skipper?

Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week 2013 is shaping up to be another fun, tropical regatta in August -  Teri Dodds   Click Here to view large photo

Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week 2013 with strong flow of entries. Thus year’s regatta is attracting a big mix of new competitors as well as past participants.

The great news for this year’s regatta is the inclusion of the Australian Multihull Championships, which highlights the commitment of the event to grow and diversify as an iconic sailing regatta within the Queensland’s Season of Sailing.

Whitsunday Sailing Club Commodore and Event Chairman Rob Davis said a large number of competitors have entered the regatta in the last few days. 'This surge of entries is great to see, and the current competition we are running to win free berthing at Abell Point Marina for the duration of race week has got sailors talking,'

Breaking news - One of Australia´s most successful big boat sailors and tourism industry scion, the dual Sydney to Hobart winner Bob Steel has entered his 52 footer Quest in the 2013 SeaLink Magnetic Island Race Week and 2013 Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week. Steel won the 2002 and 2008 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Races, the first with his Nelson Marek 46 footer Quest and the second of those with the boat he will be sailing on the northern circuit, the big TP52 Quest.
