The Olympic Garda Week 2013, Eurosaf Champions Sailing Cup will experience a new format that could be adopted in the next Olympic games. Yesterday was important because it was the last chance for sailors to qualify for the Medal Race. Gold fleet racing was held in extremely tricky conditions.
The world number one, Tom Burton continues to lead the fleet, followed by Tonci Stipanovic, while Australian sailor Ryan Palk completes the top three. Joining them in the medal race is Jean Baptiste Bernas, Andy Maloney and Daniel Mihelic.
In the Laser Radial, Annalise Murphy still leads the way going into tomorrow’s medal race. Croatian sailor, Tina Mihelic is second and Finland's Tuula Tenkanen completes the podium. Drozdovskaya Tatiana, Heidi Tenkanen and Turkish sailor Donertas Cagla completes the top six that will be taking part in today’s medal race.
The Medal Race for Laser and Radial will kick off today at 12:00 (Italian Time). Trentino Olympic Week is part of the Eurosaf Champions Cup Sailing Series. Other host venues of this series include Medemblik, Weymouth, Kiel, and La Rochelle. The top six from each class will sail a medal race.
Sailors will start Sunday’s race with scores according to their overall position. i.e. Annalise Murphy is first overall so she will start tomorrows race with a score of one, Tina with a score of two, Tuula three etc. When boats cross the finish line they will be scored according to their finishing position. The person with the least score wins.
