Sail-World.com : Maximising success
Maximising success

Jarrod Day

With limited time to be on the water juggling family life and day to day business activities, we somehow need to maximise our ability to catch fish. This in itself can be difficult to achieve at times but with the likes of weekly published fishing reports, facebook, twitter and other online forums, finding where the fish are biting is all at the tip of your fingers. These days, online media such as fishingboating-world.com may deliver comprehensive technical articles designed to guide you to success while the social media apps, fishing reports and websites can guide you to where the fish are in your local areas. Simply by putting these two together and by implementing the right procedures, your limited time on the water can quickly go from struggling to find fish to a down right epic session.

I have been involved in many online media forums, facebook and the like for quite some time and in today’s technical era, without them, I’d spend more time looking for fish and catching next to nothing than actually going home with my dinner.

Gone are the days of heading out into the bay or ocean, lining up a house roof with a tree to the right and a cliff to the left to pinpoint the exact spot to catch a fish. With the aid of the internet, emails and text messages we can all have success with the limited time we have to spend on the water, it only takes one person to post a GPS mark and everyone can enjoy the action. Just what will the next 20 years bring us…..hopefully the fish fall from the sky when it rains, we can only dream.

This week we begin with Gary concluding on my editorial topic about maximising your success by nutting out a few strategies to be more productive when on the water casting a line.

Lee Brake explains how and why heavy rain is the catalyst for some exciting fishing opportunities in the north of Australia. When it rains, it really rains stimulating many species to fish to go into a feeding frenzy. From creek dwellers including barramundi and jacks to the offshore scene, a little rain and really fire the fishing up.

I decide to go on the search for bream at Mallacoota with good friend and local fishing guide Frank Milito. Together we search out yellow fin bream with a twist, top water surface fishing. This mind blowing technique has really caught on with plenty of anglers quickly becoming addicted. If you’re looking for a new style of fishing to get back the spark, flick out a walker, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much fun and simple this technique really is.

Until next week,
