JJ Giltinan 18fters: Gotta Luv It 7 makes comeback in Race 2 + Video

'Mojo Wines - JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff International Championship'    Beth Morley

The JJ Giltinan 18ft Skiff International Race 2013 resumed racing on Sunday with Race 2 sailed over a four-lap windward leeward Course Six - due to very congested Sydney Harbour, which also hosted Farr 40 regatta.

The race ended in a sensational manner, with the first boat across the finish line not being awarded the race win.

Principal Race Officer Gary Linacre opted for a Taylor Bay start for using Course Six, and once again, after one General Recall the fleet got away with two boats individually called over the line early being the UK entry The Black Dog, and James Dorran's Mojo Wines.

Mojo Wines hit the front on the third lap, and held first place to the finish of the race. But it was only when she crossed the line, that Mojo's crew realised that they were scored as a non-finisher due to jumpimg the start and not returning to restart.

That detail aside, the race behind Mojo Wines was epic to say the least.

The breeze was flaky and variable at best, which shuffled the pack constantly up front but the real interest was the fact that the equal favourites for this years title were deep at the rear. Gotta LuvIt 7 had a terrible start, and Thurlow Fisher whilst in a podium position at the first turning mark, had a disastrous second beat, and Rag and Famish were in deeper trouble at that point.

The podium at the completion of hostilities read first Thurlow Fisher Lawyers, second Gotta Luv It 7, third Rag and Famish Hotel. Gotta Luv It 7 leads on three points, Rag and Famish Hotel and Thurlow Fisher are tied on five points.

Race 3 will be sailed on Tuesday , February 19, 2013.

Race 2 Pick the Podium. Congratulations go to Graeme Tumber who picked the perfect Podium with Rag in third place. He wins the cool Barzoptics San Juan Floater Sunnies and the handy www.appliancesonline.com.au Bar Fridge plus the Legend full Podium bragging rights and now goes into the draw next Sunday 24th with Tina Babbage and Adam Young for the major JJ Giltinan Pick the Podium prizes which can be seen on 18 footers TV

Can you Pick the Podium? Its fun and free to enter Simply log on then register to play and go to the Ready Reckoner where the fleet is ranked into groups and enter your picks for Tuesday's Race 3.
