The Chicago Yacht Club’s Race to Mackinac Committee has now released the Notice and Conditions of Race (NOR) and the Mackinac Safety Regulations (MSR) for the 105th Running of the annual event. The documents are available on the Race’s website, under Race Documents.
'We are building off the momentum developed in the 104th in providing a fast, enjoyable and safe race for all competitors. While our committee can look to address the fun and safety factor, Mother Nature has the final call on the ‘FAST,’' said Race Chairman Lou Sandoval. 'The fleet’s cooperation with the changes implemented for the 104th is very noteworthy, as it really set a benchmark by which many offshore races are now organized.'
'The committee continues to remain cognizant of the fact that offshore sailboat racing has global variability. We are glad to help lead the charge in North America with some of the safety changes we have and continue to implement.'
Among the changes implemented for 2013 was the elimination of belt pack personal flotation devices based on the feedback provided in US Sailing safety reports. This change was made in the Mackinac Safety regulations (MSRs) that are issued in conjunction with Bayview Yacht Club’s Mackinac race.
The NOR defines the criteria that will be used for boats who will be returning to compete in the race as well as new entries that would request invitation to participate. The MSR provides the specific safety provisions needed for the boats racing in the 'MAC.'
The 105th Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac presented by Veuve Clicquot will start on July 13, 2013. Participation in the 333-mile race from Chicago Yacht Club to Mackinac Island, Mich. is by invitation only. Invitations for returning competitors will go out in the coming weeks. Requests for new invitations are currently open. Chicago Yacht Club looks forward to staging a world-class sailing race for skippers and crews.
