In London for the Tullett Prebon London Boat Show 2013, it’s been snowing today, so the sailors who have ventured to Docklands, on the River Thames are the hardy souls.

In a live satellite video link, a very hardy soul, Vendee Globe sailor Mike Golding was talking from the Southern Atlantic, to the Show crowd. More on that and some words from Sir Ben Ainslie later in the week.

In the middle of the British winter, you understand just why the world leaders in the foul weather gear come from England.

Don’t cry too much for our Sail-World European team, they will be enjoying some great weather on Mallorca for the Princesa Sophia Regatta in Palma come end of March.

Back on the local scene, the 18 footer action is heating up, the 12 foot skiff have decided their 2013 champions and the 16 foot skiffs are away.

Moth Squad member Kiwi Pete Burling won the Australian Moth titles convincingly, while across the continent sand groper Michael Manford took the Etchells Crown.

Probably the best news from the Australian scene this week is that this year, for the 39th Hempel Gosford to Lord Howe Island Yacht Race - the Gosford Sailing Club has a good problem on its hands.

After some years of dwindling entries, the move to a new time slot and some hard work from PRO Tony Evans and his team means it's likely entries will be more than can be berthed on the restricted Island facilities. So race organisers will have to choose just who gets to sail in the 2013 race.

Sail-World will be covered the race in detail this year, as it will the upcoming Festival of Sail, now less than two weeks ago..
