Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for December 20, 2012

After a couple of months of silence and deflected interviews, Oracle Team USA came out of their shells today with several updates on the state of play with their America's Cup Defence.

Long story short, is that they expect to have USA-17, the AC72 which pitch-poled on October 16, back in the water with a new wingsail in early February.

Their second AC72, is well under construction, and will launch on an, as yet unspecified date. No big deal, no-one else has announced when their second boats are going to launch, either.

But there are more storm clouds on the horizon for Oracle, with an Int Jury decision expected to go against them, if AC rumour control, is to believed. The Jury decision has been made according to Sail-World's information. All that remains is for the illegally gathered images to be returned, then the International Jury will have to make a second decision as to penalty.

While some, including us, expected this to be a smack with a wet bus ticket, on reflection it is reasonable to expect that Oracle Team USA may have gained as a result of the professional foul - and that situation will be difficult to redress. Particularly as the alleged infringing occurring in the vital period when the finishing touches were being applied by all teams to their second AC72 design.

We expect the Decision to be published soon, so stay tuned for more on this issue.

Yachting NZ's High Performance funding for the 2016 Olympics in Rio Janeiro has received a boost of over $1million. Yachting has also been included in one of the three Tier 1 sports along with Rowing and Bike. Additionally Yachting is only one of two Tier 1 sports (Rowing is the other) to have their funding locked in for a four year period. We have a a light analysis in this edition of Sail-World.com.

Lidgard 60 available now through Busfield Marine -     Click Here to view large photo

In this edition we feature the first of what we hope will become a regular brokerage feature, with a selection of excellent boats available through Busfield Marine. With the economy looking set to pick up next year and interest rates at an all time low, now if the time to look at upgrading your boat, or ticking off another item on your bucket list. Don't forget joint ownership works for many people, and is great way of getting into a bigger boat, at reduced initial outlay and shared running costs.

Local designer Bakewell-White Yacht Design also features in this edition with a new boat for a Japanese owner who will use her for shorthanded racing along with several youth sailors. One of the features of the new design, built by Southern Ocean is the interesting bow profile which maintains waterline length, while keeping the length at deck level within limits set for tax and marina charges in Japan.

As a follow up to our story on carbon masts and booms for the Laser classs, we are pleased to be able to report that the first set was sold within eight hours of the story, and inquiries were received from both coats of the USA, Australia and the Middle East. Already several sets have been sold, and the first export load is out the door at Kilwell in Rotorua. All enquiries have been from right on the target market - club sailors, who want a lightweight spar that sails very well and is lightweight for rigging purposes.

Many thanks to those who have contributed to this edition, particularly those using our online submission and image loading facility which can be accessed by clicking here
