Dinghy classes find it tough in strong winds on Day Three of Series

The winds were up today and on the 'big boat' courses reports of carnage were coming in as the dinghy fleets headed out to their start south of Kata Bay. Principal Race Officer Mark Pryke, ably assisted by Royal Thai Navy personnel, set the courses and completed three races in the Optimist class, bringing the series total to eight races with just one day to go.
Pongsapat Poomyam continued his winning ways in the Male division with a bullet in the first race of today. That was followed with a fourth and an eighth. Now with the drop race added, the eighth place today doesn't affect the series results where Pongsapat leads on 18 points. Second place in the standings is Kitipoon Kumjorn who had an indifferent day. A DNF in the first race was followed by a third and a tenth place. Dropping the DNF, Kitipoon sits second overall on 27 points with Apiwat Sringam in third on 28 points.
In the Female division, Kamonchanook Klahan placed 7,10,1 to move to the top of the standings with a single point lead over Sutida Poonpat. Chanokchon Wangsuk lies third overall after a disappointing 13,16,4 on the day.
In the Laser class, Kamolwan Chanyim continues to lead the pack and put in another solid performance scoring 2,1,3 today to sit pretty on top of the standings with 12 points. A 3,2,1 by Nuttapol Srihirun leaves them on 14 points in second place, ahead of Manut Plotong in third overall.
The stronger winds today proved challenging for all the dinghy classes, especially the Topper fleet who scheduled three races yet a number never managed to post results for any.
Phuket-native, Akapoj Kankaew showed his class posting two wins. Sukawya Saiman was the only other Topper sailor to post a result today with a second place in the first race today. No other scores were posted by the fleet, including DNS's for the entire fleet for the final race.
The final day of racing takes place tomorrow, off Kata Beach.
