Day 1
Forty sailors from Germany, Finland, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Norway, Singapore, Spain, Thailand, the UK and the USA registered on December 1st, 2012 for the Phuket King's Cup Regatta windsurfing event. Among them Marina Alabau, who won gold at the 2012 Olymics, from Spain and Ek Boonsawad and Siriporn Kaewduang-Ngam from Thailand. All competitors are sailing on new Phantom boards, provided by Starboard, ensuring sailors are competing on a level playing field. A practice race was held in light (8 to 11 knots) winds. Hei Man Chan from Hong Kong placed first, followed by Daniel Blinnikka from Finland. Due to very light winds towards the end of the practice race, only six sailors finished. The first day ended with a great welcome party hosted by Starboard at an excellent Isan-food restaurant near the racing venue.

Day 2
The second day, December 2, 2012, started with very heavy rain and hardly any wind. Windsurfers seized the moment and tried the stand-up-paddle boards (SUPs) provided by Amara Watersports and Starboard. After the waves had calmed down, the windsurfers took advantage of the improving weather and played some beach volleyball before attending Starboard's demonstration of the windsurfing gear provided for the event (above pic). The demonstration was delivered by Starboard's Remi Vila and translated into Thai by Watchara (Kai) Wichithong from the Windsurfing Association of Thailand (WATH), the organiser of the Phuket King's Cup Regata windsurfing event. Given the low winds, all windsurfing races were cancelled for the day.

Sailors were invited by Starboard to join in some fun beach games, such as an SUP race to the Island in the bay, and to enjoy an afternoon of relaxing.

Let's hope for stronger wind and less rain tomorrow.
