The official opening for the 26th Phuket King’s Cup Regatta took place at Kata Beach Resort & Spa, and was attended by VIPs, media and hundreds of sailors from around the world. The Regatta, held from 1 to 8 December, 2012, has attracted sailors from over 35 countries along with some of the fastest racing vessels in the region, who came together to enjoy the stunning Opening Party. The Regatta generates significant revenue for the local economy, and serves to the great benefit of Phuket’s hotels and restaurants which enjoy a surge of custom before, during and after Regatta Week. Kevin Whitcraft, President of the 26th Phuket King’s Cup Regatta Organising Committee, joined with Pamuke Achariyachai, President of Kata Group Resorts Thailand and Host Sponsor, Maitree Inthusud, Phuket Governor; the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand and the Royal Thai Navy for the opening ceremony. As a principal fixture on the Asian Yachting Circuit, the Phuket King’s Cup Regatta under Royal Patronage annually attracts the largest racing fleet in the region, ranging from high tech to live-aboard ocean cruisers, multihulls and classics. International-standard race management is combined with lively beach parties to create this world-renowned yacht racing exhibition.
