Installation Instructions for Coastal Classic Race Tracking

Android Phones

On your Android phone go to the PlayStore/Market Place and search for 'PredictWind Tracker'. Please download & install the 'Tracker' App. The cost is $4.19

Open the Tracker App and click on the 'Race Settings' button. Select Yacht Club as 'NZMYC', Race as 'Coastal Classic', Your division (1-8) and carefully type in your boat name. Then click save and return back to the home page. To start tracking click on the 'Tracking' button to change from 'off' to 'on'. Make sure your location services have the 'Use GPS satellites' enabled if requested. Click on the 'Show Map' button to confirm data is being sent to the PredictWind server. Make sure you return to home page of the tracker App to get off the map page to minimise data usage. The data usage for the App is 2 MB for a 24hr period. It is very important that you leave the Tracker App running, and do not exit the Tracker app with the hardware back button, as this will stop all GPS tracking.

iPhone/iPad

On your iPhone go to the App store and search for 'PredictWind'.

Click on the 'Show Map' button to confirm data is being sent to the PredictWind server. Make sure you return to home page of the tracker App to get off the map page to minimise data usage. The data usage for the App is 2 MB for a 24hr period.

General Tips

On Race day please ensure your phone is fully charged, and its primary purpose is for race tracking. The battery on the phone should last the entire race if it is used for tracking only! Please ensure all other Apps are not running on the phone. This can cause the battery life to be greatly reduced. On the home page of your Android phone go to Settings > Applications and click on apps that you are not using and 'Force Close'. For iPhone users on the home page of your iPhone double click on the home button. You will see a horizontal list of all the Apps running on your iPhone. Click on hold on an App to get the red delete icon at the top right of each App. Click on the red delete button to stop any unnecessary Apps running on your iPhone and consuming battery life.

The Tracker App can only work correctly if it has good GPS & Mobile coverage. We recommend you place the phone in your jacket pocket in a waterproof cellular bag available from any marine store, or alternatively you can use the zip lock 'Glad Bag' available at the briefing. If the phone is below decks, the Tracker App will be of limited use!!

Get a driPhone and have it working in the cockpit!

At any time during the race you can view all race positions at forecast.predictwind.com/tracking/race/nzmyc
