There's plenty of New Zealand news in this edition of Sail-World.com's newsletter.
Last weekend, winter gave the RNZYS Winter Series fleet something to remember ,as they copped a dusting in 30-40kt NE winds.
Always a starter for a spot of carnage, we were a little disappointed as the fleet handled the tough conditions well, sailing just off a difficult lee shore.
Nevertheless we got plenty of shots, from the base of North Head, and have a gallery of these in this edition, plus two video shot by sailors on board the TP52 V5 and the Ross 40 Satellite Spy.
It will be a day to remember on Sunday, September 23 at Kohimaramara Yacht Club where 2012 Olympic Gold Medalists, Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie are re-united with their former P-Class, in they sailed just over 12 years ago.
For young sailors it is a great opportunity to meet the Gold Medalists, and also reflect on the fact that in just three Olympic cycles these sailors have gone from sailing a P-Class to winning an Olympic Gold Medal.

On Saturday the Auckland Winter Sprint Series for Optimists will be held at Kohimaramara YC, which is the club at which Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie first met and competed against each other in the Optimists and the P-Class.
In this edition of Sail-World we have a gallery of images of their early sailing days, including a hook up with the two Team New Zealand AC yachts one day off the East Coast Bays, and then some more images from their win last month in Weymouth.

On Sunday, too, Bucklands Beach Yacht Club will be holding their Open Day. Bucklands run a mix of sailing from dinghies through to keelboats, all from a great clubhouse. So if you live in the area, or are just passing through, drop in for a look. And if you have friends who aren't into sailing, take them along for a look. It is becoming very common now for kids from non-sailing families to be world champions. Most get their first taste of the sport through being dragged into open days, like the ones that will be held at many clubs in the next couple of weeks, and then the new sailors just stick around.
Staying with things Olympic, don't miss the video interview with GBR's David Howlett, four time Olympic Gold Medalist Ben Ainslie's coach. As well as Ainslie's three Gold Medals, in the Finn class, Howlett has worked with Gold Medalist Iain Percy in the Finn and Star classes, and Mike McIntyre and Bryn Vaille (GBR) in the Star class in 1988. Howlett may be rather dry and laconic, but this eight minute interview is well worth seeing. Certainly the affection with which he is held in British sailing circles, is palpable. NZ Rigging has also got a deal running through the Auckland On the Water Boat Show. They are going to let go a lot of cut lengths of rope, at a very good price. All you need to do is know the length of line you require, or bring the sheets and halyards along to the Boat Show and Richard Bearda and his team will do the rest. They will even splice your current end fittings onto the sheets - all for free.
Don't forget that NZ Rigging are operating from their rigging loft in Pier 21 at Westhaven, and well as from their main spar factory in Woodside Road, Northcote.
Predictwind, have also made a key announcement with their move to the cloud - (based computing, that is). In this edition of Sail-World we detail the benefits of this for an already great, and essential piece of software - that will both help you improve your racing and give you peace of mind if you are a cruiser.
Auckland based designers Bakewell-White Yacht Design, took the two top positions in the Simrad Shorthanded Series, with the much campaigned 52fter Wired, taking the top position, and Omega 8, being runner up in the overall series. We have a short story on their achievement in this edition of Sail-World.
Despite the rather difficult financial times, which have hit the superyacht industry very hard, it is great to see that Alloy Yachts has secured an order for delivery in 2014, for a 44 metre yacht. Despite the high dollar and everything working against New Zealand financially it is great to see that the quality of the New Zealand Marine Industry is recognised by international buyers.
