2012 Paralympics: NZL on hold on Day 3 of Paralympics
|
The two New Zealand crews sailing in the 2012 Paralympics Regatta being sailed on Portland Harbour, near Weymouth, in England, have not improved their overall placing on the third day of the event, despite a third place in the 2.4mtr. On Day 3 of competition, Paul Francis sailed his best race so far of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, finishing third in Race 6 of the 2.4mR single person keelboat event. Conditions on day three were light and variable, with racing postponed on the Portland Harbour course for a couple hours because there was too little wind, and when it did get underway in the early afternoon, there was only 7-8kn maximum. Overall standings did not vary much; Francis's overall standing of 14th stayed as it was yesterday and his NZL Sailing teammates in the two person keelboat sailing event are positioned ninth with five races left. Overall points are particularly close in the two person SKUD 18 fleet where NZL's Tim Dempsey and Jan Apel are competing. Now that more than five races have been sailed, competitors are able to discard their worst score. Five races remain and both fleets will sail another two races tomorrow starting from 10:00pm NZT (11:00am local time) on Portland Harbour. Day 3: Current Standings after 6 of 11 races 9th – Tim Dempsey and Jan Apel (SKUD 18) - 9, 9, 5, 7, 8, 11 14th - Paul Francis (2.4mR) 14, 10, 14, 12, 14, 3 For full results click here
