Zhik Moth Worlds: Flying Hellfish all set
|
The 2012 Zhik Nautica Moth Worlds are set to take place at Lake Garda, Italy from the 19th-26th August and Easy Tiger Racing crew-member Josh McKnight is set to compete, with his Flying Hellfish powered by Easy Tiger Racing set to go. Sydney based McKnight has high hopes of improving on his results after finishing in 12th place at the 2011 Moth Worlds in Belmont, New South Wales, Australia. In January 2012 he finished seventh overall at the Moth Australian Championships at Mornington, Victoria. With 114 entries from 20 countries received to date and 20 of those from Australia the event is shaping up to be a thrilling spectacle played out against the backdrop of one of Italy’s most stunning lakes. The competition is expected to be fierce with some of the world’s best sailors peppered amongst the fleet. McKnight arrived in Italy well ahead of the event in order to get better acquainted with the local conditions and implement his pre-regatta training strategy.

Racing in light air is quite demanding so for this event I have two main foils; one full size for the light winds and another cut down foil for over 12 knots,' McKnight said. McKnight’s boat preparation has been meticulous and this year he has dedicated much of his time, energy and resources in making the boat fast and reliable. His intense training program has included plenty of early morning hours on Sydney Harbour with training partner Scott Babbage. 'Scott is currently ranked third in the world in the Moths and will be competing in Italy too. We’ve practised plenty of tough scenarios so I am well prepared for the most challenging situations on the racetrack. I’ve also focused on my boat handling skills and short course racing so I tack smoothly and get around the course with minimal mistakes,' he said. Zhik Moth Worlds website
