The Sydney International Boat Show opened its doors today for the 45th year running. As Australia’s largest boating display, the event is prepared to deliver five days of non-stop marine fun.

With over 300 exhibiters and 800 boats on display throughout the Sydney Convention and Exhibition and Centre and another 150 boats showcased in Darling Harbour’s Cockle Bay Marina, industry officials anticipate an unprecedented event.

'This marine industry of ours in Australia is a fantastic industry,' said Domenic Genua, Marketing and Event manager for the BIA. 'The products and the lifestyle that we deliver to our audience is something special.'

The Boat Show will exhibit every type of vessel, from power to sail, Australian-made to internationally crafted.

In addition to the impressive hardware, Genua and his team are focusing this year’s event on public ‘education and entertainment’.

'With that in mind, we have prepared many attractions and activities that will run throughout the event, with different features aimed at offering something of interest for everyone,' said Genua.

Genua explained that this year’s entertainment package revolves around the release of the recreational boating website 'MyBoatingLife'. This new information hub that allows for customizable access to the marine industry, is providing a steady rotation of guest lecturers. Speakers will cover a range of topics in sailing, boating and fishing, in addition to a daily live cross from the Olympics by Marine Business World’s Rob Kothe.

'From an educational level we really believe we have everyone covered, with live cooking demonstrations at the Club Marine stand and the fabulous MyBoatingLife Entertainment Precinct hosting impressive array of boating and fishing experts on stage daily,' said Genua.

In an effort to incorporate aspects from Sydney’s historical past, the Show’s annual Walk of Fame makes its return. Visitors can explore ships involved in the earliest days of Darling Harbour and the surrounding areas.

'Consequently we have endeavoured to present an array of attractions and activities that will run throughout the event, with various ‘shows within the show’ that really will find appeal for all,' said Domenic Genua,

The Sydney International Boat Show runs through Monday, 6 August.
