London Olympics 2012 Sailing competition, Weymouth - 49er class.

British sailors Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes hauled themselves back into 49er contention after taking victory in both 49er races on the Portland Harbour Course.

With two faultless performances they trail Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen (AUS) by 11 points after the Australians had their worst day on the water with a discarded tenth and a sixth.

The Brits led from the start in Race 7 to take the bullet ahead of Lauri Lehtinen and Kalle Bask (FIN) and they tussled with the Finnish team again in Race 8 to finish nine seconds ahead. On their day Morrison said, 'Amazing. We sailed well and the wind sort of helped us out.' On winning both races Rhodes added, 'An amazing day and these don't happen very often, so our mentality is just the same.'

Overall leaders Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen (AUS) weren't as consistent as their previous days but despite falling back to 20th place in Race 7 after a penalty turn they turned things around to make up ten places, 'We did a great job to come back,' said Outteridge. 'We had a couple of hiccups. We can't go out there and get the top three in every race. Every leg we were passing boats and we were happy with that. With a few more legs we would have done even better.'

New Zealand's Peter Burling and Blair Tuke are third overall on 41 points with Portugal's Bernardo Freitas and Francisco Andrade and Sweden's Jonas Van Geijer and Niclas During tied on 49 points.

49ers resume racing tomorrow at 13:30 local time on the Nothe Course with three scheduled races.
