The Kirkland brothers from Bermuda were involved in an interesting and painful incident in the fifth race of the 49er class at the 2012 Olympic Regatta.

Just short of the finish line, when twin wire reaching the leeward wing caught the waters of Portland Harbour, triggering a capsize. Crew Alexander Kirkland fell awkwardly and was in some pain as the boat drifted to the finish line.

They were able to recover in time and sail the second race of the day, placing 12th overall
