After five days of competition, the World RS500 Championships and RS200 and RS400 Eurocup have come to close.
Once again Fraglia Vela Riva was able to ensure that the maximum number of scheduled races were carried out (10 for the RS500 and eight for the RS200 and RS400), despite the unusually light- medium wind conditions on Trentino Garda.
Over the last fifteen days races have been held for the various RS classes (last week the European RS100, 700 and 800 Championships took place), and the spirit in which the participants tackled the regattas in the single and double skiffs was greatly appreciated by all.
Their willingness to come all the way to Trentino Garda was rewarded with the discovery of an area rich in events (many competitors brought along their families), both on water and on land.
Away from the rigours of competition, there was an atmosphere of goodwill among the various nationalities present at the event; the Brits (the largest representation), the Dutch, the Swedes and Italians.
RS200 Eurocup This had been a tight competition from the start and ended up with the gold going to Ben Saxton and Pete Matthews. Silver went to Andrew and Jeraldine Peters with Robert Gullan and Jack Holden taking home the bronze. Results here
RS400 Eurocup This class also came down to the last race with Jim Downer and Jon Price placing first in the eighth race , giving them the gold medal. Second were Stewart and Sarah Robertson and third place went to Howard Farbrother and Dan Martin ( tied on points with George-Mitchell.)
The RS classes return to Riva del Garda in two years time while next week at Fraglia Vela Riva the Europa Junior and Master European Championships take place from 29th July-7th August event website by Elena Giolai
