ilovesailing reveals March calendar competition winners

by Emma Slater on 7 Apr 2014
In the zone windsurfing moments Christopher Riordan
Andy Carter from Dartmouth and Christopher Riordan have been crowned the March winners in the ilovesailing calendar competition 2014, securing themselves the first two spots on the 2015 ilovesailing calendar.

Andy entered a fantastic image of Yacht ‘Fear O’ racing from Brixham to Dartmouth during the Dartmouth Royal Regatta, while Christopher’s amazing windsurfing shot is simply entitled ‘In the windsurfing zone’.

When asked about his entry and his win Andy commented: 'Brilliant, I am chuffed to bits that my picture has been selected for the calendar, it is amongst my favourite shots.

'The shot was taken at the beginning of Dartmouth Week which marks the start of The Dartmouth Royal Regatta in late August. The Regatta is massively popular and attracts sailors from around the world. Including Sir Ben himself! The sailing conditions on that morning were challenging for some, blowing six knots and seven knots plus, which makes for exciting pictures. The crew of Fear-0 appeared to be having a great time so we spent a little time getting some shots while trying not to get in their way.'

'After the success of the first calendar last year we simply had to do it again and we haven’t been disappointed with the amazing photos entrants have already posted' commented Emma Slater, ilovesailing coordinator. 'We were really spoilt for choice this month and choosing just two winners from the 30 entries proved a tough job, but Andy and Christopher’s images just had the edge for the judges.'

'Sadly we haven’t been able to make contact with Christopher since announcing his win so if anybody knows him please could you ask him to contact ilovesailing to claim his prize', Emma added.

As well as a spot on the 2015 calendar, which will be launched at the PSP Southampton Boat Show in September and will be available for purchase at the show and via the RYA webshop, Andy and Christopher also win tickets to the Southampton Boat Show where they will pick up a canvas print of their winning photo and other goodies and of course their very own 2014, red, ilovesailing duck, which is proving to be a much coveted item amongst ilovesailing fans!

The ilovesailing calendar competition runs from March through to August 2013, with two photo winners being picked each month to appear on the 2015 calendar.

All you have to do to take part is post your favourite sailing photo(s) on to the ilovesailing Facebook page or email your entry to emma.slater@rya.org.uk, it’s that easy.

Two winners will be picked each month and will be announced on the ilovesailing Facebook page and-or contacted via email. All winners will also receive a copy of the calendar when it is completed as part of their prize package.

The calendars will go on sale at the PSP Southampton Boat Show 2013, with the first 50 people to purchase a copy also receiving a 2014, red, ilovesailing rubber duck.

As well as the new calendar competition the ilovesailing page will continue to run its ever popular weekly caption competition, giving you a chance to share your funny, clever and witty captions in a bid to win an ilovesailing duck.
