McCrae Yacht Club are continuing the trend of having the young kids out on the track with the elite sailors to provide even more motivation to keep them in the sport. The ZHIK 29er National Championships are being held on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula. Alex McKinnon was there to capture the action.

Commodore, Steve Berryman, said of the very impressive fleet that has assembled on the Mornington Peninsula for the 9er National Championships, ‘My word it is. We really push the youth aspect, with sail training and coaches all under 25 and mostly in their teens. We give them opportunities by paying for their training to coach and drive the powerboats and they’re all the officials today as well. Our Bar Manager is under 25, as too the Sail Captain, with that age group having strong representation on the Committee and we think this is what makes McCrae a terrific place.’

‘It is important to note that we also have the Pacer Nationals on here too, and as these are a family boat, it really helps to have so many great sailors around and they can see the pathway with all three skiff classes here for them to watch and get inspired by.’

Yes. The line certainly was a very busy place for the start of race one and it ended up being a General Recall. - ZHIK 29er National Championships -  © Alex McKinnon
