Yachting New South Wales winter training for youth classes

Starting in mid-May, Yachting New South Wales is once again running the popular Winter Training Program for youth classes.

Building on the success of previous years, the 2012 program will be held at four different clubs across the Sydney region, and is designed to provide training for all youth sailors regardless of class sailed or skill level. One of the prime objectives of the program is to maintain and develop the skills of young sailors so there is no seasonal lag requiring skills to be ‘re-learnt’ when the summer commences.

The program also acts as a venue catalyst for clubs to interact more closely with other clubs within their region, and provides a structured environment where the young adult instructors are mentored whilst completing their instructor/coach qualifications. This gives them the ideal opportunity to enhance their practical skills whilst completing their qualifications

The program is being run at St George Sailing Club, Hunters Hill Sailing Club, Middle Harbour 16’ Sailing Club, and Toronto Amateur Sailing Club. The full day of training includes on and off water sessions, and offers a range of dates from mid-May to the mid-August at each club to suit the applicants.

'This year’s Winter Training Program promises to better than even as we take it to four sailing clubs across the greater Sydney region. The days are run professionally and provide good constructive coaching and feedback to the all participants including the sailors and the young adult instructors. The program also has a structured flow on effect as the lessons learnt are passed on by participants to other members of their clubs.' said Andrew Cribb, Yachting NSW’s Development Manager

Full details of the program and online application forms for class and coach participants are available now on the Yachting New South Wales website.

Yachting New South Wales would like to thank the ongoing support of the marine industry in sponsoring the Winter Training Program, in particular Gill Australia who provide a uniform for the Yachting New South Wales website

Another iffy start to the day, with an AP on shore. Another iffy start to the day, with an AP on shore. There were plenty of crew taking the opportunity to hang out at the back of the beach at the Cape Panwa Hotel (an eminently suitable spot for a bit of enforced idleness), but then the breeze came in and it was all hands on deck. Literally.
